New Years Bring New Laws To New York

(Albany, NY) -- There are a number of important new laws that are now in effect in New York with the New Year.

Workers who live in the state can now take up to ten weeks off for family leave, an increase from eight. That includes time off for bonding with a new child, caring for a family member with a serious health condition or assisting loved ones when a family member is deployed abroad on active military duty. Also, all new or renovated buildings in the state will have to put baby changing stations in all bathrooms, regardless of gender.

And in New York City, single-use Styrofoam is banned and pharmacies are can no longer sell tobacco products.
