(Poughkeepsie, NY) -- Friends, family and local residents said their final goodbyes to Marine Corps Major James Brophy of Staatsburg. Hundreds of people attended the public memorial service today at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie. Brophy”s Commanding Officer, a fellow Marine aviator and a childhood friend, all eulogized the highly decorated Marine Corps officer.
After the service a funeral procession traveled to the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Major Brophy was among six service members who were killed last month in a collision in the sky over the Sea of Japan.
