(New York, NY) -- MTA Chairman Fernando Ferrer says they're postponing the vote over fare hikes for Metro-North and the other transit systems and considering a range of other options.
Subway and bus riders spoke at a hearing this morning, opposing the fare hikes in most cases, and drawing attention to a variety of city transit issues. As the MTA continues to face issues with funding, some at the meeting called for the swift adoption of congestion pricing, as a means of generating revenue.
Others mentioned challenges the disabled face when using transit, ongoing questions regarding needed L Train repairs and the possibility of a veteran's discount. The Board had been considering its options, including hiking base fares by about four percent.
