Incident At Poughkeepsie High School

(Poughkeepsie, NY)--An incident this morning at Poughkeepsie High School forced security to put the building into lockdown and police were called.

The incident happened in the main lobby of the high school where a weapon was detected. City of Poughkeepsie Police say at about 7:48 AM “an attentive school security official at the Poughkeepsie High School discovered a student attempting to enter the school with a loaded handgun in a backpack. The security guard secured the weapon and brought the student to a nearby office.” School officials then notified police.

“The student charged in the incident is Quentin L. Wiggins, a 19 year old male, of the City of Poughkeepsie, NY. Wiggins is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree, a class C felony as well as Criminal Possession of a Weapon on school grounds, a class E felony.”

The lockdown was lifted at about 9:30 am.

The incident happened in the main lobby of the high school where a weapon was detected.School officials say the security staff and administrators acted swiftly and appropriately to insure everyone’s safety and all students and staff are safe.The lockdown was lifted at about 9:30 AM.
