Vassar Brothers Medical Center President Gives Project Update

(Poughkeepsie, NY)--Vassar Brothers Medical Center President Kerry Eaton gave an update this morning on the half-billion dollar patient pavilion construction project in Poughkeepsie.

She said that most of the exterior work is complete on the pavilion, and the bulk of the work will now focus on the interior.The eight level structure with 264 private patient rooms is scheduled to open next year.Also, President Eaton told the 200 people at the Grandview for the State of the Medical Center Community Breakfast that the new medical residency programs will start there in July and planning continues for the new Marist-Health Quest School of Medicine partnership.

President Eaton said Vassar Brothers Medical Center continues in full growth mode and pointed to several factors supporting that:

  • Vassar Brothers generated $922 million in economic activity in 2018.
  • Vassar Brothers discharged 23,659 patients in 2018, a 17 percent increase in five years.
  • Vassar Brothers employs nearly 2,200 workers and is the largest private employer in the City of Poughkeepsie. Of those, more than 900 are nurses.
  • People are also choosing to come to the Emergency Department. The medical center had nearly 75,894 visits in 2018, an 11.9 percent increase in five years.
