Heat Advisory Posted For Hudson Valley Today


(Poughkeepsie, NY)--A Heat Advisory is in effect for the Mid-Hudson today. The National Weather Service says the alert will be active starting at 11 a.m. and stay in place until 8 p.m. Heat index values are expected to be around 95 degrees, which raises the risk of heat illnesses for those with chronic health problems. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration says anyone working outside today should stay in the shade and take lots of breaks.

Due to the heat advisory the City of Poughkeepsie will open a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at the Public Safety Building located at 505 Main Street. Also, the Adriance Memorial Library, at 93 Market Street in Poughkeepsie, will operate a cooling center today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the Salvation Army Poughkeepsie Community Center at 19 Pershing Avenue, Poughkeepsie, will operate a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today.
