'Survivor' Contestant Dan Spilo Ejected For 'Off-Camera' Incident

Survivor: Island of the Idols

For the first time in the show's history, a contestant on CBS's long-running reality show, 'Survivor,' has been kicked off the show without explanation, less than a month after he was accused of inappropriately touching two female contestants.

The announcement that Dan Spilo, a 48-year-old TV producer and talent manager, was removed from the show came from host Jeff Probst, who told contestants at the end of the night's episode that Spilo had been removed from the game. As the show came to an end, the screen went dark and a message appeared for viewers:

"Dan was removed from the game after a report of another incident, which happened off-camera and did not involve a player."

Representatives for Spilo told PEOPLE that he was not commenting on the episode at this time. CBS also declined to comment, the magazine reported.

The incident reportedly involved a member of the show's production team and occurred after an immunity challenge while Spilo and other contestants were getting into a boat to go back to camp. There's no video of the incident, but at least one other contestant witnessed it, PEOPLE reports.

Spilo's absence comes weeks after he was accused of inappropriately touching a female contestant earlier this season. Contestant Kellee Kim said Spilo violated her personal space, despite multiple requests from her for him to stop.

After Kim was voted off the island, Spilo apologized, saying, "I work in an industry in which the #MeToo movement was formed and allowed — thank God — to blossom and become powerful and strong. My personal feeling is if anyone ever felt for a second uncomfortable about anything I’ve ever done, I’m horrified about that and I’m terribly sorry."

When host Jeff Probst was asked about the incident by Entertainment Weekly, he couldn't comment on the incident.

"The question is a fair and reasonable one," Probst told the outlet. "I’ve endeavored to be as forthcoming as possible with you regarding everything that has happened this season. In this situation, out of respect for privacy and confidentiality, I can’t say anymore."
