(Poughkeepsie, NY) -- There was a big spike in the number of reported flu cases in Dutchess and Ulster counties last week. The number of cases more than tripled in Dutchess County from the week before with a nearly equal number of Influenza Type A and Type B cases reported. For the first time this season Ulster County is reporting flu cases in double digit numbers.
According to the NY Department of Health, there were 92-hundred confirmed cases of the virus during the week ending December 28th. That's a whopping 74-percent increase over the agency's previous flu surveillance report. Nearly 14-hundred people were also hospitalized due to complications from the virus, a nearly 120-percent increase from the week before.
