Over the bank’s long history, millions of dollars have been donated and thousands of local residents have been helped by its giving programs  Since the bank’s 150th anniversary in 2001 it has formalized its giving programs through the founding of a charitable foundation Over $12.5 million dollars has been given to hundreds of non-profits in the area since the foundation was launched Ulster Savings team members are stepping up and finding creative ways to work with their customers to help spread kindness throughout Ulster, Orange, and Dutchess counties in even more meaningful ways with the 170th anniversary.

“As a mutual savings bank, we were created for the benefit of our customers and the community, we have no shareholders. That enables us to keep all profits local and reinvest into the community in a number of ways,” said Bill Calderara, CEO/president of Ulster Savings Bank. “Celebrating our 170th anniversary with just as many random acts of kindness is our way of spreading kindness and supporting our community following a challenging year.”

To date, the bank has purchased and donated toys and puzzles for children at a Poughkeepsie-based homeless shelter, covered one month of garbage removal services for Stone Ridge residents picked at random, gifted free haircuts at a Dutchess barber shop, donated masks to the Ulster Immigration Defense Network, gifted free coffee at a Phoencia gas station, free NYS inspections at local garages, and free pizza to customers at Newburgh pizzeria, among others

“We are proud that throughout our long history, we stayed true to our mission and the mission of our founders in serving our customers and the community at large,” Calderara added.
