WHITE PLAINS – An off-duty Mount Vernon police officer who was driving at more than twice the speed limit on the Hutchinson River Parkway when he caused a crash that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist was arraigned on Wednesday on charges of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and reckless driving.
John Osario, 52, of White Plains died at the scene in Mount Vernon on September 26, 2020.
Antoine Henrys, 38, a Mount Vernon police officer for eight years, was traveling northbound on the parkway at 129 miles per hour in a 50-mph zone seconds before hitting the rear of a second vehicle. The impact caused the second car to lose control and move into the motorcycle’s lane striking the cycle and causing Osario to be thrown into the southbound lanes where he was struck by several vehicles.
“Antoine Henry’s dangerous driving showed a total disregard for the safety of other drivers and ultimately led to the death of John Osario,” said District Attorney Miriam Rocah. “Westchester drivers need to know that we will aggressively pursue this kind of behavior as we work to keep our roadways safe for all.”
Henrys was released on his own recognizance.
