Man charged after opening fire on State Police

MAMAKATING – State Police have charged the man who shot at Troopers during a domestic incident was charged on Tuesday, September 14, with two counts of Attempted Murder of a Police Officer and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Patrick Hermanowski was arraigned in the Town of Mamakating Justice Court and remanded to the Sullivan County Jail.
Hermanowski had been at Garnet Health Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound after being shot by a Trooper. The preliminary investigation says that Hermaowski had been hiding inside of a vacant travel camper while police were looking for him and, as Troopers approached, he opened fire on them. An officer returned fire, striking Hermanowski in the neck.
