A group of hikers discovered the body of a missing woman while trying to reach a mountain peak near Craggy Wash in Arizona over the weekend.
The hikers immediately called 911 but told dispatchers they couldn't reach the body due to its location. Mojave County Sheriff's Office dispatched a rescue team who determined the woman was dead, but due to the rugged terrain, they could not reach her body that night.
The next day, the rescue team used a helicopter to extract the body.
"Considering the different options to extract the body with our technical rope rescue team, the DPS Western Air Rescue helicopter from Kingman became available and performed a long-line extraction," the Mohave County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue wrote on Facebook.
Officials identified the woman as 46-year-old Melinda Oakeson.
According to Fox News, Oakeson, who had been living out of her car, was reported missing on October 16 by a family member.
Officials did not say how long Oakeson's body had been on the mountain or how she died.
