A high-speed police chase in California ended when a suspected car thief slammed into a highway underpass on Wednesday (October 23) afternoon.

The chase started around 1:45 p.m. when the Los Angeles Police Department received a report about a stolen Honda CR-V. The female driver led the police onto the 14 Freeway before getting off. She then got back onto the northbound 5 Freeway.

The driver hit speeds of 120 mph as she drove dangerously, trying to evade the officers. She continued to speed along the freeway before pulling a U-turn and switching to the southbound lanes.

As she tried to cut across several lanes of traffic, her vehicle hit the dirt, causing her to lose control and crash just after 3 p.m.

Several news stations aired the chase live, capturing the horrific moment the women lost control of the vehicle, which rolled over and went airborne before slamming into the overpass.

According to KTLA, the driver was ejected from the vehicle and died.
