Early voting in New York State saw a record turnout last weekend, with over 700,000 residents casting their ballots. This figure surpasses the early voting numbers from the 2020 presidential election. More than a quarter million of these votes came from New York City alone.
The first two days of the early voting period saw a surge in participation. According to Gothamist, over 140,000 people voted in New York City on the first day, marking the city's highest early voting turnout ever. The borough of Brooklyn saw more than 40,000 people vote early on Saturday, followed by over 38,000 in Manhattan, over 16,000 in the Bronx, over 31,000 in Queens, and over 13,000 in Staten Island.
New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, who was among the early voters in Brooklyn, expressed his excitement about the turnout. "This is awesome. I'm very impressed to see this and I've been watching the news and it looks like there's lines all over the city," he told Eyewitness News. "So excited about that. That people are engaged. I'm hoping to see lines like this all around the country."
