The search for John Higgins, a missing man from Dutchess County, concluded over the weekend when authorities found him in New Scotland, Albany County. Higgins, who was reported missing last week, was discovered near the Clarksville Caves on Saturday (November 9). Deputies from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a pickup truck parked at the trail entrance behind Son’s Deli.

Upon investigation, they identified the truck's owner as Higgins, who had been missing since Thursday (November 7). Witnesses informed the deputies that Higgins entered the trail on Thursday around 1 p.m. The Albany County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the New York State Forest Rangers and the National Cave Rescue Commission, located Higgins inside the cave at approximately 2 p.m. He was unharmed.

Higgins received a ticket for trespassing and is scheduled to appear in the Town of New Scotland Court on November 21, 2024, at 5 p.m. According to CBS6 Albany, the multi-agency effort ensured his safe recovery.
