The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) board has approved a revised congestion pricing plan, with a vote of 12-1. The plan, which still requires federal approval, proposes a toll for drivers heading south of 60th street in New York City. The toll has been reduced from the original proposal to nine dollars, with a three-dollar discount for drivers using the Lincoln and Holland tunnels. The plan also includes a provision for the toll to increase to 15 dollars in 2031.
Despite the approval, there are federal lawsuits attempting to halt the implementation of the toll, which is scheduled to take effect on January 5th. The congestion pricing plan is part of a broader effort to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality in the city.
