Several fire departments and agencies from Ulster County have been deployed to help control the Jennings Creek Wildfire. The Ellenville Fire District has been working overnight shifts for up to 72 hours, deploying their Utility Task Vehicle and brush equipment. This comes as rain is expected to move into the region, which could help in controlling the fire.
This is not the first time Ulster County has been involved in firefighting efforts. Recently, Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger praised the efforts of dozens of fire departments that helped fight the Whitehouse Fire in Denning. The fire, which spanned hundreds of acres, involved challenging terrain and weather conditions. According to Daily Freeman, the Whitehouse Fire was 100% contained as of November 13.
Nearly 200 firefighters from 20 agencies across Sullivan, Ulster, and Delaware Counties worked to extinguish the wildfire, which was fueled by dry ground cover and strong winds. The Ulster County Department of Emergency Services led the unified command system, which included the Sullivan County Division of Public Safety, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, and the Grahamsville Fire Department, as reported by Mid Hudson News.
Metzger expressed her gratitude to all the organizations involved in the firefighting efforts, as well as those who donated food and supplies. She also thanked the community for their cooperation and patience during these challenging times.
