The Big Lots store in Ulster, which was previously slated for closure, will remain open. The discount store, located in Caldor Plaza, was initially included in a list of stores to be closed due to the company's financial difficulties. However, it has now been removed from that list. The Big Lots store in Wappingers Falls will also stay open.

The Ulster store, which occupies the former Burlington Coat Factory space, opened on August 18, 2022. It offers a wide range of products, including discount furniture, home decor, groceries, seasonal items, and toys. Despite the reprieve for the Ulster and Wappingers Falls locations, other New York Big Lots stores, such as the one in Middletown, are still set to close.

Big Lots announced the closure of 52 stores in 2023 and plans to close hundreds more in 2024 and 2025 as part of a restructuring plan. This restructuring culminated in a bankruptcy announcement in September and a subsequent agreement to be sold to private equity firm Nexus Capital Management. According to the Daily Freeman, Nexus Capital Management acquired the company at a discount.
