Ulster County Sheriff Juan Figueroa is seeking legislative approval to purchase advanced sonar equipment for the Sheriff's Department. The equipment, a "Marine Sonic ARC Explorer MKII system," is designed to detect items even in murky waters and would be used for search, recovery, and survey efforts.
The Ulster County Legislature's Law Enforcement and Public Safety Committee is set to vote on this request at its meeting tonight in Kingston, New York. The cost of the sonar equipment is projected to be over $67,000. If approved, this would mark a significant investment in the department's capabilities for underwater searches. According to the Daily Freeman, the Marine Sonic ARC Explorer MKII system is the newest generation of Marine Sonic Technology’s towed side scan sonar.
