Hudson is offering free parking throughout the city for the entire month of December. This initiative, announced by city officials, aims to support local businesses and ease financial burdens for residents during the holiday season. However, parking fees at the Amtrak lot on Front Street will still apply.
The free parking offer includes all municipal lots and street meters, but it does not cover the Amtrak lot, where parking remains at $10 per day. In addition to the free parking, alternate side parking rules will be reinstated starting Friday (December 6). These rules will be enforced seven days a week, requiring vehicles parked overnight to switch sides based on the calendar day.
Mayor Kamal Johnson emphasized the importance of this tradition, stating to the Daily Gazette, "We wanted to keep the tradition with helping our businesses in the holiday time, as well as the employees that work for some of these businesses." The free parking initiative is expected to benefit both residents and visitors by providing a reprieve from meter fees.
On Saturday (December 7), Hudson will host its annual Winter Walk event, leading to additional parking restrictions. Warren Street and several side streets will be closed to parking and traffic starting at 1 p.m. to accommodate the event, which runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Handicapped parking will be available on designated streets during the event.
