Dutchess County has approved its 2025 budget, totaling $629.4 million, following a bipartisan vote of 23-2 on Monday (December 9). The budget includes a 2.7% property tax rate decrease, marking the tenth consecutive year of tax cuts for homeowners and businesses. The rate will drop from $2.23 in 2024 to $2.17 in 2025.
County Executive Sue Serino described the budget as a "careful, responsible plan" that invests in essential services while minimizing taxpayer impact. The budget introduces new initiatives to enhance public safety, youth services, and support for seniors and veterans. Notable investments include a $2 million allocation for Emergency Medical Services and expanded funding for the Dutchess County Drug Task Force.
The budget process involved several amendments funded through the Community Benefit Fund, established by Serino for projects with substantial community benefits. The budget will now be forwarded to Serino for review and signature, with a final Board meeting scheduled for Wednesday (December 18) to consider any amendment vetoes.
County Executive Serino expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts, stating, "This budget proves what we can accomplish when we work together." The budget aims to address community concerns, including affordable housing and mental health services, while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
