New details have emerged following the discovery of human remains in Hudson. On Monday (December 9), a survey crew found skeletal remains in a wooded area off Mill Street, near the Empire State Trail. According to the Hudson Police Department, the remains appear to be from an adult and have been in the woods for a significant amount of time. Police do not currently suspect foul play, but the investigation is ongoing.
The remains were found on a steep hill covered with brush, making them less visible during the summer months. Hudson Police Chief Mishanda Franklin stated that while the area is wooded, it is not remote, with nearby houses and a vacant school visible from the site. The Hudson Police Department is working with the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Identification Unit to identify the remains through DNA testing. Chief Franklin mentioned that there is no set timeline for identification, but she hopes it will occur within the next couple of weeks.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the case to contact the police. As the investigation continues, updates will be provided as more information becomes available. The Times Union and Hudson Valley 360 have reported on the collaborative efforts between local and state authorities in this case.
