Officials in Dutchess County, New York, have launched a Transportation Safety Action Plan aimed at reducing crashes on roads throughout the county. The Dutchess County Transportation Council (DCTC) is seeking community input to develop this plan, which targets reducing fatal and serious injury crashes across all types of transportation.

A virtual public meeting is scheduled for Thursday (December 19) from noon to 1 p.m. to gather input from residents and present an early analysis of crash data. Residents can register for the meeting at DutchessNY.gov/SafetyActionPlan. County Executive Sue Serino emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, "Everyone in Dutchess County deserves to travel safely, and we all have a role to play to prevent traffic crashes."

The plan aligns with national and state safety initiatives, including the U.S. Department of Transportation's Safe Streets for All program. It will enable all 30 municipalities in Dutchess County to pursue federal safety funding. The DCTC is conducting surveys, interviews, and various meetings to engage the public and gather feedback.

The plan is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 and will provide road owners with the necessary data to improve safety. Residents are encouraged to share their thoughts through an online survey and an interactive map where specific locations with transportation safety issues can be flagged.
