A longtime Kingston Police Department officer, Sergeant Eric VanAllen, was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) on Friday morning (December 13). Authorities found VanAllen and another man seemingly asleep in a vehicle on a state highway in Gardiner, New York. While VanAllen was taken into custody, his passenger was not charged with any crime.

The Kingston Police Commission plans to meet today (December 18) to discuss possible disciplinary actions against VanAllen. According to the Daily Freeman, the incident has raised concerns within the department and the community.

The outcome of the commission's meeting will determine the next steps for VanAllen, who has served with the Kingston Police Department for many years.
