The sentencing of Carrie Weiser, a Catskill woman convicted of murder, has been postponed. Weiser was found guilty of stabbing 68-year-old Scott Meyers to death in 2021. She was originally scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday (December 19), but her lawyers have requested a hearing under the Domestic Violence Survivors Act. This act allows judges to impose lesser sentences on domestic violence victims if their convictions are directly linked to their abuse. If successful, Weiser could face a reduced sentence of eight years instead of life in prison.
A Greene County Court jury convicted Weiser after three days of deliberations, rejecting defense claims that included self-defense and intoxication. The prosecution, led by Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Sandleitner, successfully proved the murder charge beyond a reasonable doubt.
The hearing for the reduced sentence is yet to be scheduled, and the outcome could significantly impact Weiser's time behind bars.
