The investigation into the cause of a fire at the Nevele resort property in Ellenville continues after a blaze erupted on Saturday (January 11). Firefighters from multiple departments responded to the scene on Nevele Road, where they found smoke and flames engulfing the main building, which houses the kitchen, main lobby, theater, and dining room. These areas suffered extensive damage.
The fire was reported at 6:39 a.m., and according to Ulster County Fire Services Deputy Director Michael Gaffney, it was a two-alarm fire. One firefighter sustained a minor injury during the operation. This incident marks the second fire at the Nevele property in less than a year, following a similar event in March 2024.
Officials have labeled the fire as "suspicious" and are actively investigating its cause. The historic Nevele resort, once a popular destination in the Borscht Belt, has been the subject of previous fire incidents, raising concerns about its safety and security.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the fire.
