Testimony is set to resume today in the murder trial of Nyqwuan Monroe in Kingston, New York. Monroe is accused of being one of three individuals involved in the shooting death of Dominique Greene at Greene's apartment on Prospect Street in July 2023. As part of a plea deal, the two other suspects, Shaliza Dhanraj and Maliek Fredericks, will testify against Monroe.
The trial, which is expected to last approximately two weeks, will feature testimony from around three dozen witnesses, according to Assistant District Attorney Jenna Hastings. Monroe, who has already pled guilty to Murder in the Second Degree, faces a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
The incident occurred when Monroe, a convicted felon, traveled to Kingston with a loaded firearm. He and his co-defendants entered Greene's home, where Monroe shot and killed Greene. DNA evidence linked Monroe to the crime, and he was arrested the following day.
Assistant District Attorney Jenna Hastings stated, "Nyqwuan Monroe is the individual who shot and killed a young man in his own home. Today’s plea reflects that. However, there is no plea that can ever heal the pain and trauma that his actions caused the family and loved ones of Dominique Green."
The trial continues as the community awaits the outcome and potential sentencing of Monroe.
