Kingston Mayor Steve Noble has announced upcoming changes to parking enforcement in the city, starting in February. The city will extend enforcement hours for parking violations to include Saturdays and after 4:30 p.m. on weekdays. This change comes in response to numerous complaints about double parking in the Uptown area and other locations.
The new enforcement will focus on violations such as double parking, blocking fire hydrants, and parking in crosswalks or bike lanes. Mayor Noble emphasized the importance of these measures to improve traffic flow and safety in Kingston.
In line with these changes, the city has already increased fines for various parking infractions. As of January 1, fines for double parking and similar violations have risen to $50, up from $20 in 2024. Unpaid tickets after 15 days will incur surcharges, doubling the penalty to $100. Blocking a fire hydrant will result in a $100 fine.
Mayor Noble stated that vehicles with three or more unpaid tickets may be immobilized with a boot until the fines are settled. The fee for immobilization is an additional $50.
The mayor's office has also announced that parking permits for municipal lots will increase to $150 in 2025. These changes are part of a broader effort to manage parking and encourage the use of alternative transportation methods in Kingston.
