Jury deliberations in the murder trial of Nyqwuan Monroe are set to resume today (Thursday, January 23) in Kingston, New York. The jury began deliberations on Wednesday (January 22) after hearing closing arguments and reviewing evidence. They requested to rehear the testimony of three prosecution witnesses. Monroe is accused of fatally shooting Dominique Green in his Kingston apartment on July 27, 2023. If convicted, Monroe could face a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

The trial has revealed significant evidence against Monroe, including DNA linking him to the crime scene. According to Hudson Valley iHeart, Maliek Fredericks, a former co-defendant, testified that Monroe shot Green, although he did not witness the shooting. Fredericks' murder charge was dropped in exchange for his testimony. Additionally, recordings from Green's cell phone captured some of his last words, providing crucial evidence for the prosecution.

The prosecution, led by Assistant District Attorney Jenna Hastings, alleges that Monroe and his co-defendants entered Green's apartment with a loaded firearm. Shaliza Dhanraj, Green's ex-girlfriend and another suspect, also testified against Monroe. The Daily Freeman reported that Dhanraj pointed the finger of blame at Monroe during her testimony. The trial, which included testimony from around three dozen witnesses, is expected to conclude soon.
