In Kingston, a jury has found Nyqwuan Monroe guilty of murder in the 2023 shooting of Dominique Green. The verdict was delivered on Thursday (January 23) after hours of testimony and deliberation. Monroe, 25, was convicted of two counts of second-degree murder, three counts of first-degree burglary, and criminal possession of a weapon, according to the Ulster County District Attorney’s Office.

The incident occurred at Green's residence on Prospect Street, where Monroe used an illegal firearm to fatally shoot Green in the neck, severing his jugular vein. Monroe initially pled guilty to one count of second-degree murder in January 2024 but later withdrew his plea, leading to the trial.

Monroe's sentencing is scheduled for March 17, and he faces up to 25 years to life in prison. The case has drawn significant attention due to Monroe's attempt to represent himself, which the court denied. The trial proceedings were closely followed by local media, including Daily Freeman.
