The City of Poughkeepsie is actively recruiting residents to join several important committees and boards. One of the key initiatives is the formation of a nine-member Charter Review Commission. This commission will evaluate and propose updates to the city's governing charter, offering a unique opportunity for residents to influence the future governance of Poughkeepsie. The mayor will appoint members in consultation with the Common Council.

In addition, the city is seeking volunteers for the Board of Assessment Review. This board, consisting of three to five members, plays a crucial role in assessing property values. Members are expected to have a general knowledge of property values within the community and will participate in hearings to evaluate grievance applications. The Board of Assessment Review meets annually on the fourth Tuesday in May, known as "Grievance Day," but members may also be required to attend additional hearings.

The Zoning Board of Appeals is also looking for new members. This quasi-judicial board is responsible for making zoning interpretations, recommending zoning changes to the Common Council, and ruling on variance requests. The Zoning Board of Appeals provides an essential service by ensuring that zoning laws are fairly applied and interpreted.

Applications for all these positions are due by Friday (January 31). Interested residents are encouraged to apply and contribute to the city's development and governance.
