The Hudson Valley region is experiencing a significant increase in flu cases, with the latest data showing a continued rise. During the week ending January 18, Orange County reported the highest number of infections with 1,378 cases, followed by Rockland County with 1,312, and Dutchess County with 749 cases. Health experts emphasize the importance of good hygiene and flu vaccinations to reduce the risk of illness.

The New York State Department of Health has categorized flu activity as geographically widespread, with more than half of the state's counties reporting increased cases. Since October, New York State has confirmed over 128,000 flu cases. Health officials, including State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald, urge residents to get vaccinated against the flu, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) to protect against severe illness.

Dr. McDonald stated, "Flu, COVID, and RSV vaccines are your best defense against serious illness from these diseases." The department has launched a campaign to encourage vaccination, which will run on television throughout the state. The flu vaccine is widely available at pharmacies, health clinics, and physician's offices across the state. Locations can be found online at vaccines.gov.

With flu cases expected to remain high, health officials recommend staying home when sick, practicing good hygiene, and following preventive measures to curb the spread of the virus. For more information on flu prevention and vaccination clinics, residents can visit the New York State Department of Health's website.
