U.S. Representative Josh Riley, representing New York's 19th District, has been released from the hospital after an eight-day stay due to pneumonia. Riley, a Democrat, shared the news on social media, expressing gratitude for the medical care he received and the well wishes from supporters. He initially sought treatment after battling the flu, which progressed to pneumonia and affected his lungs and bloodstream.

Riley's illness began earlier in January when he and his family contracted the flu. He posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, about postponing events due to the illness. On January 19, he was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. During his hospital stay, Riley missed several events, including Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations and a presidential inauguration.

In a statement, Riley expressed his eagerness to return to work and continue his duties. He also thanked his supporters for their kind messages during his recovery. Riley defeated Republican incumbent Marc Molinaro in the November 2024 election to secure his congressional seat.

As Riley returns to his role, he aims to focus on key issues such as protecting the southern border, lowering living costs, and addressing State Local Tax Deductions (SALT). He has expressed a willingness to work across party lines to achieve these goals.
