The Hudson Valley is witnessing a significant rise in flu cases, with Westchester County reporting the highest number of infections. As of the week ending January 25, Westchester County recorded 4,138 cases, followed by Orange County with 1,630 cases, and Rockland County with 1,405 cases. Dutchess County reported 869 cases, while Ulster County had 354 cases. Since the start of the flu season in October, New York State has confirmed over 230,000 flu cases.

Health officials emphasize the importance of vaccinations and good hygiene to combat the spread of the flu. The New York State Department of Health categorizes flu activity as geographically widespread, with over half of the state's counties reporting increased cases. Dr. James McDonald, the State Health Commissioner, urges residents to get vaccinated against the flu, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) to protect against severe illness.

According to the New York State Department of Health, flu vaccines are widely available at pharmacies, health clinics, and physician's offices. The department has launched a campaign to encourage vaccination, which will run on television throughout the state.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that flu cases and emergency room visits related to the flu are very high nationwide. The CDC notes that flu trends this year resemble the 2019 to 2020 season, which also peaked around the New Year. Health experts recommend getting a flu shot, practicing good hygiene, and avoiding large crowds to protect against the flu.
