The City of Kingston's plans to demolish the Pike Plan have been temporarily halted due to a court ruling. On Thursday (February 6), the State Appellate Court issued a temporary restraining order, preventing the city from proceeding with the demolition of the canopies on Wall Street and North Front Street. This decision marks a temporary victory for developer Neil Bender's William Gottlieb Real Estate, which is engaged in ongoing litigation against the city's demolition plans.
Earlier this week, the Kingston Common Council voted 6-2 to borrow over one million dollars to remove the Pike Plan canopies, with demolition initially scheduled for April. Despite the council's decision, the restraining order will remain in effect until further notice, delaying any demolition activities.
The legal battle over the Pike Plan continues, with the restraining order serving as a temporary measure while the court reviews the case. The outcome of this legal dispute will determine the future of the canopies in Kingston's Uptown area.
