The City of Poughkeepsie Police Department is intensifying efforts to curb the illegal use of dirt bikes and ATVs on city highways. This crackdown comes in response to numerous community complaints about these vehicles being ridden unlawfully on public roads. On Monday (February 24), the police issued several tickets and impounded a dirt bike after stopping an individual operating it on local roads.

The department's actions reflect a broader trend in New York, where law enforcement agencies are taking a firm stance against the illegal use of off-road vehicles. For instance, the New York State Police recently arrested two individuals in Brunswick, New York, for criminal possession of a stolen dirt bike. The bike was discovered during a traffic stop and had been reported stolen from Bennington, Vermont, earlier in the month.

The Poughkeepsie Police Department's increased vigilance aims to enhance public safety and address the community's concerns. As part of this initiative, the department encourages residents to report any illegal activity involving dirt bikes and ATVs. The crackdown is expected to continue as police work to ensure compliance with traffic laws and protect the safety of all road users.
