Congressman Pat Ryan is calling on Hudson Valley residents to provide feedback on the quality of local healthcare services. Ryan has received numerous complaints about declining care, particularly at facilities owned by Optum, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group. These facilities include CareMount Medical and Crystal Run Healthcare, which were acquired in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
Ryan launched a survey to gather firsthand accounts from residents regarding issues such as inaccurate billing, increased fees, and difficulties in securing appointments. The congressman emphasized the importance of understanding these challenges to ensure that Hudson Valley families receive the care they deserve.
The inquiry comes amid ongoing investigations by the Department of Justice into potential anticompetitive practices by UnitedHealth Group, including an antitrust review of Optum’s acquisitions. According to Ryan's office, there have been reports of worsened care quality and reduced access to medical providers since the acquisitions.
In addition to gathering community feedback, Ryan is committed to holding corporations accountable and lowering healthcare costs. He has supported legislation aimed at reducing drug prices and improving healthcare affordability.
Ryan's efforts are part of a broader examination of UnitedHealth Group's management practices, as reported by STAT News. The congressman continues to advocate for transparency and accountability in the healthcare sector.
