Hudson is set to install new parking kiosks this spring, aiming to modernize its parking system and increase revenue. A total of 16 kiosks will be placed at key locations, including Warren Street, the municipal parking lot on Union Street, and the parking lot near the Hudson Amtrak Station on South Street. Drivers will pay 75 cents per hour in short-term lots and one dollar per hour for on-street parking, a significant increase from the current 25 cents per hour in municipal lots and 50 cents per hour on Warren Street.
The Hudson Common Council authorized the purchase of these kiosks from Integrated Technical Systems for $148,599.49, with an additional monthly service fee of $1,520. The installation will occur in three phases, starting with the South Front Street municipal parking lot, followed by Warren Street between 1st and 3rd Streets, and finally extending to other municipal lots and sections of Warren Street.
According to the Daily Gazette, the new system is expected to generate an additional $150,000 in revenue annually. Hudson's Parking Committee is also considering a program to offer discounts to seniors and people with disabilities, along with exploring a permit system for residents.
The kiosks are part of an effort to provide more payment options and improve parking management. The city has hired a consultant to oversee the installation and develop future parking strategies. Updates on the installation process will be available on the city's Parking Bureau website.
