New data reveals that flu cases continue to be high across the Hudson Valley region. As of the week ending March 1, Westchester County reported the highest number of infections with 1,732 cases. Orange County followed with 583 cases, and Rockland County reported 507 cases.
Health experts emphasize the importance of practicing good hygiene and getting vaccinated to combat the spread of the flu. According to the New York State Department of Health, flu activity is geographically widespread, with over half of the state's counties experiencing increased cases. Dr. James McDonald, the State Health Commissioner, advises residents to get vaccinated against the flu, COVID-19, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) to protect against severe illness.
Flu vaccines are widely available at pharmacies, health clinics, and physician's offices. Residents can find an immunization clinic in their area by visiting vaccines.gov. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) notes that flu cases and emergency room visits related to the flu remain high nationwide, resembling trends from the 2019 to 2020 season.
With flu cases expected to remain high, health officials recommend staying home when sick, practicing good hygiene, and following preventive measures to curb the virus's spread. For more information on flu prevention and vaccination clinics, residents can visit the New York State Department of Health's website.
