The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is celebrating Metro-North Railroad's impressive performance, achieving 100% on-time service for the 21st time on Sunday (March 9). All three lines east of the Hudson River reported 99% on-time performance last month, marking a significant milestone for the commuter rail service.
Ridership on Metro-North has also seen a remarkable increase, with a 17% rise in the number of people taking the train and an almost 18% uptick in monthly ticket purchases. According to MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber, "Even with surging ridership and hundreds of trains running every day, MTA’s commuter railroads keep delivering better and better service."
Governor Kathy Hochul praised the MTA's efforts, highlighting the reliability and speed of the service as key factors in attracting more riders. "New Yorkers know that they can depend on the Metro-North and Long Island Rail Road trains every single day," she said.
Metro-North Railroad President Catherine Rinaldi emphasized the importance of providing consistent and reliable service to maintain and grow ridership. The railroad's performance follows a record-breaking year in 2024, with on-time performance exceeding 98%.
Looking ahead, the MTA aims to continue enhancing service reliability and accommodating increasing ridership as more commuters return to public transportation.
