The Village of Catskill has been awarded $10 million from New York State's Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI). Announced by Governor Kathy Hochul, this funding aims to transform Catskill's downtown area into a vibrant hub of activity. The grant will support infrastructure improvements, new housing, and historic renovations to create cultural and commercial spaces.
According to Governor Hochul, "Investing in the revitalization of our downtowns is important...while helping businesses thrive and succeed." The initiative is part of a broader effort to boost local economies across New York by turning downtowns into lively neighborhoods.
The Village of Athens also received $4.5 million from the NY Forward program. This funding will enhance walkability, improve river access, and increase affordable housing options. Both grants are part of the state's commitment to investing in community development and economic growth.
Catskill, with its historical architecture and waterfront access, plans to leverage the DRI funds to further its economic development goals. The village aims to create a more vibrant community that attracts visitors, supports local businesses, and improves the quality of life for residents.
