An Ulster County man, Michael Rodriguez, 42, from Connelly, is facing charges after allegedly attacking a woman in her Kingston residence. The incident occurred on Wednesday (March 5) around 9:40 p.m. when New York State Police discovered the 39-year-old woman outside her home needing assistance.
According to New York State Police, Rodriguez had been visiting the woman when he left and returned about 30 minutes later. Upon his return, he allegedly became irate and attempted to take her phone. A physical struggle ensued, during which Rodriguez forcibly took the phone and damaged the woman's laptop before fleeing the scene.
A warrant was issued for Rodriguez's arrest, and he turned himself in on March 11. He was charged with robbery in the third degree, criminal mischief in the third degree, and misdemeanor criminal mischief. Rodriguez was arraigned in Ulster County Court and is currently held in Ulster County Jail without bail. He was scheduled to appear in the City of Kingston Court on March 12.
The Daily Freeman reported that the charges against Rodriguez include robbery, which is a D felony, and criminal mischief, with damage exceeding $250, classified as an E felony. The investigation continues as authorities gather more details about the incident.
