The Poughkeepsie City School District is advancing to the third and likely final phase of its technology upgrades under the Smart Schools Bond Act allocation. This phase involves using the remaining $1.2 million to enhance classroom and hallway technology. The district plans to install digital clocks and speaker systems in elementary classrooms, hallways, and gymnasiums. These upgrades will allow targeted announcements to specific classrooms or building wings when needed.

The Smart Schools Bond Act, initiated by then-Governor Andrew Cuomo in 2014, allocated $5,708,639 to Poughkeepsie schools. The first two phases of the project invested about $4.5 million in safety, security, and technology enhancements, including security cameras, upgraded access systems, and interactive Promethean Boards.

In the third phase, additional Promethean Boards will be added to high school classrooms, and Chromeboxes, wireless keyboards, and mice will be purchased for some classrooms. The public is invited to submit comments on the proposal until April 6. Comments can be sent to Interim Assistant Superintendent for Business Margarita Lekaj via email.

More details on the proposal and a presentation to the Board of Education are available online.
