An investigation is underway following a devastating house explosion in Hurley on Wednesday (March 19). The explosion occurred around noon on Brueckner Lane, completely leveling the residence and engulfing it in flames. Responders from multiple fire departments across Ulster County, along with fire investigators from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection Police and the Ulster County Sheriff's Office, were on the scene to manage the situation.
Tragically, the explosion resulted in the deaths of Ralph Brueckner, 75, and Cheryl Hathaway, 58, who both succumbed to injuries sustained in the blast. The New York State Police, with assistance from the Ulster County Fire Investigation Unit, are leading the ongoing investigation into the cause of the explosion.
Authorities have urged anyone with information related to the incident to contact the State Police Kingston Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-338-1702. While road closures remain in effect, officials have assured the public that there is no further threat to safety.
