Ulster County has announced the opening of applications for its second round of grants aimed at supporting the purchase of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for youth sports programs and summer camps. Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act, this initiative has been expanded to include municipal youth sports programs. Each organization can receive up to $5,000 for equipment and training, provided they submit a state-mandated Cardiac Emergency Implementation Plan.
New York State Public Health Law requires all summer camps and youth sports programs to have at least one AED available and a certified individual present during activities. The grant is open to municipal and non-profit camps, as well as youth games and sports programs operating in 2025. However, programs that received an AED or reimbursement last year are not eligible to apply again.
Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger expressed gratitude to the Ulster County Legislature for their investment in youth safety. Everett Erichsen, Director of the Ulster County Department of Emergency Services, emphasized the importance of AEDs in ensuring a safe environment for children. Applications are due by Friday, April 18, and can be accessed online here.
