A former martial arts instructor in Dutchess County, Tyler Leclerc, is now facing 42 charges related to sexual abuse, including one involving a child under the age of 13. Leclerc, who previously worked at Leclerc Martial Arts, was initially arrested last month and has been accused of abusing four students between March 2021 and February 2025.

The charges against Leclerc include six counts of third-degree criminal sexual act, one count of first-degree sexual abuse, 17 counts of forcible touching, and 18 counts of third-degree sexual abuse. The case has sparked outrage among parents and child safety advocates, who are urging lawmakers to require background checks for employees at martial arts schools and similar institutions.

Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi stated, "The allegations are deeply disturbing, and we are committed to ensuring that justice is served for the victims involved." Leclerc's bail remains set at $200,000 cash, $400,000 bond, or a $2 million partially secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court again on April 24.

The investigation, conducted by the State Police, revealed multiple instances of abuse over several years. Leclerc has pleaded not guilty to the charges. The case has led to a push for legislative changes to protect children in similar environments.
