Ulster County is developing a comprehensive transportation plan, "Mobility 2050," to guide the next 25 years of transportation planning and investment. This Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) will focus on creating a safe and efficient transportation system for the county. The plan will prioritize projects that align with these goals and provide a framework for managing and operating transportation systems.
The Ulster County Transportation Council (UCTC) updates the plan every five years, ensuring it remains relevant and effective. The current development phase includes gathering input from the community through an online survey, which will be open until June 2025. This survey aims to understand residents' transportation needs and preferences better.
According to Ulster County's official website, the plan will cover the entire county and set priorities for both land and sea transportation systems. The UCTC encourages public participation and will hold stakeholder meetings and pop-up events to engage with the community.
The UCTC emphasizes the importance of planning for the future, as transportation infrastructure projects can take decades to complete. The plan will guide decision-making processes and ensure that transportation systems meet the county's needs.
County Executive Jen Metzger and other local officials are committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive community, with transportation being a key component of the county's development. The Mobility 2050 plan is a critical step in ensuring that Ulster County's transportation systems are prepared for the future.
