A Poughkeepsie resident, Joseph Rico, aged 50, has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery at a Burger King in New Windsor. The incident occurred early in the morning on Thursday (March 27) at the Burger King located on Windsor Highway. During the robbery, Rico allegedly assaulted the restaurant's manager and displayed what appeared to be a firearm before fleeing the scene.
Police, assisted by a K-9 unit, discovered a black BB gun and gloves near the restaurant. Further evidence was found in the Highland area, leading to the identification of Rico as the suspect. He was apprehended on Tuesday (April 1) and charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and fourth-degree grand larceny.
The New Windsor Police Department conducted the investigation with support from the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department and the FBI Hudson Valley Safe Streets Task Force. Rico is currently held pending arraignment. The case highlights the collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies to address crime in the region.
