The city of Kingston will hold a public meeting later this month to discuss the second phase of improvements to Kingston Point Park. Scheduled for Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at City Hall, the meeting will focus on shoreline resiliency and climate adaptation efforts. Residents are invited to provide input on the project, which aims to expand the park's parking lot and enhance access to a BMX bike facility, a softball field, and a dog park.
Phase 1 of the Kingston Point Park Infrastructure Improvements Project was completed in 2022. It included parking lot enhancements, a new playground, a youth soccer field, and landscaping improvements. The project is part of the larger Weaving the Waterfront initiative, which focuses on climate adaptation and shoreline resiliency.
Phase 2 will transform half of the existing parking lot on the south side of Delaware Avenue into a natural wetland to address flooding issues. The remaining portion of the parking lot will be elevated to prevent future flooding and will continue to serve as parking. The project will also improve connections to the Empire State Trail with new crosswalks, sidewalks, and pathways.
Brinnier and Larios PC, the engineering firm selected for Phase 2, will present the design plans at the meeting. Design and permitting are expected to continue through spring 2025, with construction slated to begin in fall 2025. The project has received $654,500 in funding from the New York Department of State, with a total budget of $770,000.
Mayor Steven T. Noble expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating, "We are excited to continue our work to restore and expand a variety of park assets at Kingston Point Park with Phase 2 of this project." For more information, visit the Engage Kingston website.
