Six people have been displaced following a house fire on Hooker Avenue in Poughkeepsie. The fire broke out early Thursday morning (April 3), prompting a swift response from local firefighters. According to Mid Hudson News, firefighters arrived at the scene within three minutes of being dispatched. The blaze had already burned through the roof of the building, which contains at least seven apartments.

The fire, which officials believe may have been caused by work being done on the roof, was brought under control within thirty minutes. However, the building sustained heavy damage from smoke, fire, and water, rendering it unfit for occupancy. A second alarm was called, bringing additional support from the Arlington and Fairview Fire Departments to assist in extinguishing the flames.

Fortunately, all residents were able to escape without injury. However, one firefighter required treatment for a minor burn, as reported by News 12 Bronx. The Poughkeepsie Fire Department is currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire. In the meantime, Hooker Avenue between Montgomery and Dwight Streets was closed to traffic as firefighters worked to ensure the area was safe.
